
Happy Juneteenth from all of us here at #MEAction! Juneteenth commemorates June 19th, 1865 when slavery of African-Americans was officially enforced. To celebrate we have put together a summer reading list of books by disabled Black authors.
- Keah Brown- The Pretty One
Keah Brown is an American author who was born with cerebral palsy. She created the popular hashtag #disabledandcute The Pretty One is her memoir. She also writes children books.
- Haben Girma- Haben: The Deafblind Woman Who Conquered Harvard Law
Haben Girma is a lawyer and author who graduated from Harvard Law school, Girma lost her vision due to a childhood illness.
- Eddie Ndopu- Sipping Dom Pérignon Through A Straw
Eddie Ndopu is a South African disability rights advocate who is one of the global advocates for the Secretary-General of the United Nations for Sustainable Development Goals. His memoir shares his experience as a disabled person navigating life.
- Leroy F. Moore Jr.- Black Disabled Ancestors
Leroy F. Moore Jr. is an activist and poet. He is also the founder of Krip-Hop Nation a movement that uses hip hop music for people with disabilities as expression of art.

Imani Barbarin- If I Were You, I’d Kill Myself Imani Barbarin
Unfortunately, you won’t be able to read Imani Barbarin’s memoir this summer but you can preorder it when it is released in March 2027. Imani Barbarbin was two years old when diagnosed with cerebral palsy and ever since then she has been an outspoken advocate for the disabled community. She holds a masters in global communications from the American University of Paris.
